Joseph E. Jammer
Joseph E. Jammer has worked with the Dallas Public Library for the past 12 years. Joseph started as an Outreach Specialist for the public library where he created, hosted and implemented many outstanding programs for the library. After a time, Joseph was asked to work in the children’s center where his stories and talents as a storyteller and puppeteer quickly became a favorite to visitors of the children's center library. Joseph’s programming included many puppet shows and book readings. He has also done an extensive amount of research regarding the history, allure and application of storytelling. Joseph volunteered his time and talents to host many events for the library such as the “Express Yourself” Youth Poetry Competition, the Mayor Summer Reading Club Party, the Dallas Public Library Teen Blowout, Best Southwest Book Festival, Tulisoma South Dallas Book Fair and Arts Festival where he was one of the founding committee members and he has performed for the Dallas County Community College Districts’ African American Read-In for the past several years promoting literacy as a volunteer where he established Lyndale the Literary Lion as a Read In favorite.
Joseph and his creation Lyndale the Literary Lion has been featured on FOX4 News in Dallas, TX. as Clarice Tinsley's HomeTown Hero and other news outlets such as NBC 5 and Univision for his work in the community. Joseph has more than a decade of experience working with children his partners have included Partners for Children, Big Thought-Thriving Minds, Dallas Housing Authority, Dallas Independent School District, Dallas area PTA’s, DallasKidsReads, and Head Start of Greater Dallas. Public libraries he has performed for include: Dallas, Fort Worth, Freeport, Grapevine, Jefferson, TX. and many more.
Joseph has a B.A. degree in Theatre/Cinema from Texas Southern University. While earning his degree Joseph was a member of the Texas Southern University debate team. Joseph began his professional career with The Ensemble Theater located in Houston, TX. He worked with the educational component of the Ensemble Theater performing for children at many Texas area schools and teaching theater in after-school programs. After graduating he began acting with the professional touring company Living the Dream Theater Company. Joseph journeyed to California where he taught theater to children at San Diego Junior Theater the oldest continuing children’s theatre program in the country and performed in several productions during his time there. He relocated to Dallas, Texas. and after being involved in community activities he found that many children were not motivated to read or excited about reading. Therefore Joseph combined his love of theater and literature and created Lyndale the Literary Lion a 21st century approach to 21st century learners. As Lyndale, Joseph uses storytelling, reading and music to get children excited about learning and at the same time conveys the character building ideas needed to shape active caring citizens.
